Description of the sight

A beautiful Art Nouveau building, built at the beginning of the 20th century by architect Eduard Bradtman, is known in Kyiv under the romantic name of the House of the Weeping Widow. This name was given to the house because of the spectacular external design - the facade is decorated with a bas-relief depicting a mournful female face. When it rains, streams of water run down the cheeks of a sad widow, and it seems that the woman is crying. Each of the four facades of the mansion has its own unique design, the walls of the building are finished with granite and labradorite, decorated with moldings and forged metal. The owner of the house was the Poltava merchant Sergei Arshavsky. They say that under Arshavsky, a small railway trailer was installed in the courtyard of the mansion, in which late guests were put to bed. They brought bed linen and served tea, and at night the syllables rocked the car, imitating the movement of the train. Today there is a small pond at this place. Now this beautiful building houses a hotel for especially important guests of the Ukrainian capital.
