Description of the sight
In the Ukrainian Transcarpathian village of Chetfalva, beyond which the territory of Hungary begins, there is a national temple of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia - the Reformed Church. It was built in the 15th century. During the reconstruction in 1753, a wooden bell tower with a high octagonal spire was completed, in the Gothic style, and reminiscent of a defense tower. The height of the two-tier, square in plan, bell tower is almost 30 meters. It is of interest also because it was erected directly on the ground without a foundation and piles. Its original frame structure is supported by 16 wooden supports with braces. The Reformed Church is a one-nave stone building with one window, which is fortified from the south-western corner with a buttress. The original ceiling is painted with bright floral ornaments depicted on 60 square wooden caissons. Of these, only two are repeated. This colorful beauty was created by the Hungarian artist Sandor Ferenc. Many tourists come here to see this unique piece of folk decorative art. The modern Transcarpathian Reformed Church has 114 parishes, in three church districts, where 76 pastors serve.
