Description of the sight
Christmas Church with. Pechera, Tulchinsky district, Vinnitsa region The wooden Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, perched on a high mountain above the Southern Bug, welcomes everyone entering the Pechera from Nemirov. It is located on a vast, strategically advantageous plateau, under which ancient caves are hidden, which gave the name to the village. It was here, on the site of the ancient Russian settlement, in the 17th century. the Moldavian ruler Duka built his castle, whom the Turkish sultan then appointed as the ruler of the Right-Bank Ukraine. After the expulsion of Duka, famous for his cruelty, from Ukraine in 1764, the castle was dismantled for building materials, using them to build the foundation and fence of the Nativity Church. The later bell tower was probably built on the basis of one of the defensive towers. The most breathtaking panorama of the Southern Bug valley with a cascade of rapids opens up from the plateau in front of the church.
