Description of the sight
The Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir-Volynsky is the oldest architectural monument of Volyn, and the only one in the region that has survived from the time of Kievan Rus. The temple was built in 1160 by the Volyn prince and is a representative of ancient Russian architecture. The building of the temple was exposed to fire, was in disrepair, destroyed, restored and rebuilt several times. Today it is in excellent condition and allows you to see in detail the features of the architecture of the XII century. The walls of the building are decorated with arches, semi-columns and painted with frescoes. Near the temple there is a bell tower of the XV century and the house of bishops. Also on the territory of the temple were found the graves of princes, to whom monuments are now erected. The temple is included in the list of cultural heritage of Ukraine and is an architectural monument of Ukraine.
