Description of the sight

Moldavanka is the historical part of Odessa, which is located on the territory of the Malinovsky and Primorsky districts. Odessans say that "Moldavanka is more Odessa than Odessa itself." The tender attachment of the townspeople to this area has already acquired the character of a legend. At the end of the 18th century, the Moldavank district was a separate village, which consisted of only two dozen houses, and in 1820 this area was annexed to the city. It was a working-class district of Odessa. Industrial enterprises were located here and their workers lived there. Today, Moldavanka, as before, is for the most part an industrial area, but recently residential buildings and large office centers have grown on the site of old enterprises. In the very heart of Moldavanka is the Starokonny Market - one of the most picturesque places in Old Odessa. Thanks to "Odessa Tales" by Isaac Babel, Moldavanka became widely known. In the former USSR, the Moldavian woman was known by the verse of Mark Bernes's song "Scoots full of mullet": "I won't tell you for the whole Odessa.
