Description of the sight
The Small Southern Railway is a children's and youth division of the railway in the city of Kharkov, which is designed to educate and train a new shift of railway workers. Here they are trained to transport passengers in practice. The Small Southern Railway is a 3.6 km long narrow gauge railway, which is located between Lesopark and Gorky Park, passing through Sokolniki. It was built in 1940 on the initiative of Komsomol members and the Institute of Railway Engineers. During the Great Patriotic War, the road was badly damaged, although there is evidence that during the occupation, the German invaders repaired the road and used it for transport purposes. But still, by the time the war was over, the road had to be rebuilt again. On August 25, 1945, the restored road was reopened.
