Description of the sight

Victory Square is a city square in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The square is located in the city center opposite the Opera and Ballet Theater between Sovnarkomovskaya and Skrypnik, Chernyshevskaya and Sumy streets. The square was founded in the spring in 1946 after the end of the Great Patriotic War according to the project of architects V.I. Korzha, A.M. Kasyanov and A.S. Mayak. Previously, there was a trolleybus depot on this site, and until the mid-1930s, the Mironositskaya Church. The laying of the square was carried out mainly not for state money, but on the enthusiasm of the townspeople. Kharkiv residents voluntarily participated in the construction of the square in their free time, when the central part of the city at that time was a post-war ruins. In 1947, the Glass Stream fountain-gazebo was built in the square, which became one of the symbols of the city.
