The planetarium is located next to the book market and the "Paradise Corner" complex. From the metro stations "Historichny Museum" ("Historical Museum") or "Maidan Konstituciy" (formerly "Sovetskaya") along Rymarskaya street, the second turn to the left is Kravtsova lane, down the left along the lane and the building of the planetarium with columns is located.
Description of the sight
Kharkiv Planetarium is one of the most popular attractions in Kharkiv. It was opened in 1957 on the initiative of Nikolai Pavlovich Barabashov, an outstanding Soviet astronomer. Under the spherical dome of the structure, the first apparatus "Planetarium UP-4" was installed. From the first days of the work of the Kharkov Planetarium, astronomical circles of different ages were created. In 1970-1974, the building was reconstructed, as a result of which the old dome with an 8-meter diameter was dismantled and a new one with a 15-meter diameter was installed. Instead of the old apparatus "Small Zeiss" they installed a new one called "Middle Zeiss". Currently, the Kharkiv Planetarium has a Large Hall, a Small Hall, an Observatory, and the Space Museum. The latter houses a huge exposition dedicated to ufological research. It contains information about the messages of earthlings to other civilizations and anomalous zones of the planet. In 2011, the small star hall was equipped with a virtual telescope, and now visitors can observe the planets and stars even during the day.
