Description of the sight

The village of Iza, which has a rich centuries-old history, is located in the Khust district, Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1387. According to legend, the name of the village is associated with the name of the first settler Izaya. The craft of wicker weaving is widespread in the village. This craft began to develop here at the end of the 19th century thanks to Ivan Koshko, who first taught wicker weaving to his sons, and then to his fellow villagers. Not only baskets are woven here, but also dishes, as well as various furniture. Wicker products of craftsmen from this village are very popular both in Ukraine and abroad. In the village you can see the male St. Nicholas Monastery, which stores the incorruptible relics of St. Reverend Alexei of Carpathia. Near the village, since 1985, there has been a well-known throughout Ukraine farm of spotted deer, grown in order to obtain pentacrine from their horns. A few kilometers from Iza is the Gorodilov tract with an unusually beautiful waterfall. There is also a rare amphibian - red spotted salamander.
