Description of the sight
The partisan movement is one of the brightest pages of the Great Patriotic War, which left a huge imprint in the soul of each of us. In 1941-1943, the Elinsky forests served as a base for many partisan detachments of the Chernihiv regional partisan formation. In the post-war years, numerous meetings of partisans and their descendants are traditionally held in these parts. In the early 1960s, partisan dugouts were restored here and a magnificent Museum of the History of the Partisan Movement was created. A dugout is a small dwelling deepened into the ground, having a rounded or rectangular base. Its roof is covered with logs and covered with earth. The dugouts served as a habitat and shelter for the soldiers, and also helped them keep warm in the winter. Today, several partisan dugouts remain in Chernihiv, which have come down to us in their original form. The local authorities took care to save them and make them a cultural asset. Tour groups are brought here every day, who are given the opportunity to look inside the dugout and get acquainted with the partisan way of life.
