Description of the sight
City Hall in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi is located on the Central Square. The town hall building was built in 1843-1847, designed by German engineer Adolf Martin. The majestic town hall was built in the style of late classicism. An original feature of the town hall is a 50-meter-high tower with an observation deck and a clock. The town hall is decorated with two clocks, in addition to the tower ones, there is also a clock on the pediment of the building. The clock on the pediment was presented to the city by the mayor Anton Kokhanovsky. In 2004, a tradition associated with the City Hall was introduced. Every day at 12 o'clock, a trumpeter in a Bukovinian folk costume appears on the balcony of the town hall and plays "Marichka" to the four cardinal directions.
