Description of the sight

The Monument to the Liberator Warrior (the second name is Pavlusha) is a monument dedicated to the Soviet troops who liberated the city from the Nazis in 1943. The grand opening took place in 1981. Architects - A.A. Maksimenko, E.Yu. Cherkasov and E.A. Svyatchenko. Sculptors - Ya.I.Ryk and I.P.Yastrebov. August 23, 1943 Kharkov was liberated from the Nazis. In 1959, August 23 Street appeared on the site of past battles, and in 1981 a monument to the Liberator Soldier was opened. In 2009, the question was raised about the need to restore the monument, which had not been put in order for ten years. The monument needed cleaning and renovation of the cladding. Within six months, the monument was repaired. The townspeople often refer to the monument as "Pavlusha", in keeping with the Bulgarian monument to the Soviet soldier Alyosha.
