Description of the sight
In one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, Chernivtsi, there is a beautiful ancient building Chernivtsi National University, which attracts attention with its grandeur and sophistication. The university was founded in 1875. The project was created by the talented Czech architect Josef Hlavka. The view of the building will not leave anyone indifferent. The facade is decorated with a large number of domes and towers. Outside, the building is tiled, and on the roof, with the help of tiles, a national Bukovinian pattern is laid out. Of particular interest is the huge marble hall, the ceiling height of which is more than twenty meters. Initially, the building of the University was built as the residence of the Metropolitan of Bukovina, and the construction itself lasted about 20 years. An interesting fact is that brick factories were created specifically for its construction and quarries of marble, alabaster and coral stone were developed. The history of the educational institution itself is also rich, at the beginning of its existence there were only three faculties in it: theological, legal, theological. In 1920, the university passed into the possession of Romania, and already in 1940 it became the property of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic.
