Description of the sight

Park named after T.G. Shevchenko is the central park of Dnepropetrovsk. It was founded at the end of the 18th century on the site of a winter hut with a large orchard, owned by Yesaul Lazar Globa. In the 1790s, a magnificent palace and park ensemble of the residence of G.A. Potemkin. In the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries, the park was one of the main recreational areas for citizens. After reconstruction in 1925 - 1935, the Park of Culture and Leisure named after T.G. Shevchenko. In 1963, the entrance fee for visiting the park was canceled - before that, it was necessary to pay 30 kopecks. The last global reconstruction of the park was carried out in the period 1971-1974. Since 1990, the park has been recognized as a monument of landscape art of the national level. The total area of ​​the park, together with the Monastery Island, is 36 hectares. Its territory is divided into coastal and island zones. On the coastal part there are playgrounds, a summer theater and the Palace of Students. And on the island there is a zoo, attractions, an aquarium of freshwater fish, water sports bases and beaches. The island part is connected to the coastal pedestrian bridge and cable car.
