The Monument of Independence of Ukraine is located in the center of Kyiv, on Independence Square. From the bus station you can get on the blue metro line: you need to go from the Demeevskaya station to the stop "Independence Square". From the railway station it is also convenient to take the metro (red line): go from the Vokzalnaya station to the Khreschatyk stop.
Description of the sight
The Statue of Liberty on Independence Square is a majestic and amazingly beautiful monument, considered a symbol of the country. The monument was erected in 2001 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Ukraine's independence. The majestic statue reaches a height of 61 meters. At the top of the column is a statue of the Virgin Oranta, dressed in a national costume, holding the symbol of Ukraine - a viburnum branch in her hands. The elements of the Goddess costume and the branch are gilded. The reinforced concrete frame of the monument is lined with snow-white marble specially brought from Italy. The statue has become a real symbol of the country and today is one of the tallest statues in the world.
