You can get to Kempa Island by car, returning from the M21 and E50 motorways towards the city center (landmark - Sobornaya Street). It is easy to walk from the railway station, heading along Kotsyubinsky Avenue and Soborna Street, which will lead to the bridge. Not far from it is an island (distance - about two kilometers). From the central bus station to the island is very close, some 400 meters. The route will run along Kievskaya and Sobornaya streets.
Description of the sight
It is rare in which city you can see natural sights, but in Vinnitsa there is such a place, and in the center of the city - this is Kempa Island. Interestingly, this island is of artificial origin, i.e. once it was a peninsula, and they turned it into an island only as a defensive bastion. Fortifications were built on it, which, unfortunately, have not been preserved. Kempa has always been an integral part of the city; at different times it housed a prison, the city treasury, the manor of the headman with outbuildings. Two bridges over the ducts of the Bug connected the island with the city; a tram service ran along them. The bridges were destroyed during the war, and then a pontoon ferry was installed instead, which is still in operation. In Soviet times, the island was renamed, calling Festival. The name is not symbolic, the Dawns over the Bug music festival was regularly held here, but after the collapse of the great and mighty USSR, it was returned to its original name. Now the island is a huge park area with rare plants, bordering picturesque banks and river channels. In the near future it will turn into a huge entertainment complex with several leisure centers for children and adults, a winter garden and a hotel.
