Description of the sight

About a thousand years ago, the priest Hilarion came to the hill where the distant caves are today and dug a cave in the ground for solitary prayers. Later, at the beginning of the 11th century, Anthony, the future founder of the Pechersk Monastery, settled in it. The seclusion-loving Antony gained a large following, which forced him to move to a nearby hill and dig a new cave. But soon the monks settled there as well. Thus, two cave complexes were formed. It can be said without exaggeration that over time real underground cities have formed here. Entrance to the far and near caves is free for everyone, and you can visit them both on your own and together with a guide as part of an excursion group. Upon completion of the inspection of the caves, you can visit the springs located on the lower territory, which are considered life-giving.
