Description of the sight
Kontraktova Square - one of the oldest squares in Kyiv, appeared in the days of Kievan Rus. After the destruction of the Upper City from the Mongol-Tatar attacks, it remained the center of the city until the 19th century. "Kontraktovaya" it was called because many merchants of Kyiv concluded contracts on this square, as it was located near the main source of trade supplies - the Kyiv port. On the square there is a guest yard, a well-fountain "Samson", a monument to H.S. Kontraktova Square is one of the main attractions of Kyiv.
