Description of the sight
The old fortress in Kamianets-Podilskyi is one of the most famous medieval monuments and tourist attractions in Ukraine. It is part of the State Museum-Reserve. The castle structures are often the venue for various events and filming. The castle began its existence since ancient Russian times. First mentioned in the 14th century, it was later rebuilt in stone, expanded and completed. A bridge was built in the 16th century, and bastions were completed in the 17th century. The fortress took part in the defense of the city several times and was its main defensive structure. Today, the castle is the main attraction of the city. On its territory you can see medieval buildings, as well as visit various expositions dedicated to the history of the castle and the region. In addition, you can visit the Museum of Light Weapons. The castle is open to visitors from 9.00 to 19.00 in summer and from 9.00 to 18.00 in winter.
