Prospekt Nauky - Kharkiv

Description of the sight

Prospekt Nauki is one of the main streets of Kharkov. It originates in the Nagorny district from Svoboda Square, then passes through Shatilovka and Zagosprom, ending at the intersection with Derevyanko Street on the border of the Lesopark. The construction of the street began in the 1930s. Initially, the avenue was called Third Radialnaya Street and was part of the architectural complex of Dzerzhinsky Square. In May 1934, large-scale construction of residential cooperatives began on the street. At the same time, the first building of the House of Specialists began to operate. In 1946, on the site of the dilapidated building of the Kharkiv Civil Engineering Institute, the building of the current KNURE was erected. By the 1960s, universities, residential buildings and many research institutes of various directions were located on the street. Currently, the main attractions of the avenue include the Monument to the Liberator Soldier, the Mir Hotel, the Monument to the Cossack Kharko, the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, the Project House, the Kharkiv National Medical University and the Sarzhin Yar botanical garden.
