Description of the sight
Khreshchatyk, or Khreshchatyk in Ukrainian, is the main street of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Its length is only 1.3 kilometers, it starts on European Square and ends on Bessarabskaya Square. Khreshchatyk is considered one of the shortest central highways in the world. In width it is increased to 75 meters. As Khreshchatyk street exists only 200 years. In the 7th century, this area was crossed by gullies and was called Kreschataya Dolina, hence the modern name of the street. Khreshchatyk building is a single architectural ensemble. Residential buildings are separated from the roadway by a chestnut boulevard. Since the late nineties of the 20th century, on weekends and holidays, the street has become a pedestrian street, traffic at this time is prohibited. On Khreshchatka there are such interesting objects as the Khreschatyk and Independence Square metro stations, the Kyiv Mayor's Office and the City Council, the Kyiv Passage, the Bessarabsky Market, the main post office, the Central Department Store, and the Ukrainian House.
