Description of the sight
The Church of St. John the Baptist is located in one of the oldest districts of Lviv, it is located on Stary Rynok Square. The church was built for the wife of Prince Leo Constance in 1250. According to legend, after her death, she was buried in the dungeon of the temple. The church itself is a small, single-nave building with narthexes and a faceted apse. It has been rebuilt many times. The restoration of Yulian Zakherievich, who rebuilt the church in the Neo-Romanesque style, changed its appearance the most. Currently, the Church of St. John the Baptist houses the Museum of Ancient Monuments of the city of Lviv, its main exhibit is the icon of the 16th century "Lviv Mother of God".
