Description of the sight
The church in honor of the Virgin Mary in Stryi is a classic example of Gothic architecture and at the same time a symbol of the city. The Roman Catholic parish was organized in the city by King Casimir the Great in the 14th century, a century later this church was built. The compact carved building looks very elegant. During its existence, the temple survived several devastating fires, but survived and retained its features. At the end of the 19th century, a thorough restoration was carried out here, during which the wooden altar was replaced with an alabaster one and an organ was installed. In Soviet times, the church was not used for religious purposes and was closed. But since the mid-90s of the last century, spiritual activity has revived here. And the local icon of the Mother of God of Stryi was consecrated by Pope John Paul II himself.
