How to Calculate Percentage Growth: Formula

If the final number is greater than the initial number, we can talk about an increase or growth of the number. In this case, the formula for calculating the increase in percentage will be as follows:

Growth or increase in percentage = ((Final number ÷ Initial number) – 1) × 100%

For example, initial number = 20, final number = 30. The growth will be (30 ÷ 20 – 1) × 100% = 50%. That is, the final number is 50% greater than the original.

How to find by what percentage a number has decreased?

If the final number is less than the original number, we can talk about a decrease in the number. In this case, the calculation formula will be as follows:

Percentage decrease = (1 – (Final number ÷ Original number)) × 100%
